<p><strong>Principal investigator Citizen Science Volunteer Engagement and Motivation</strong></p>
<p>Dr Joanne (Jo) Edney is a researcher and GIRT Board member with a keen interest in divers&rsquo; interactions and connections with underwater cultural heritage (UCH) and the human dimensions of managing UCH. She is a diver and dive instructor with over 42 years of diving experience and a preference for wrecks.</p>
<p>Jo completed a PhD in 2019, titled Lust for rust: Wreck divers and the management of underwater cultural heritage. This built on the research her Masters research that focused on wreck diver motivations and attitudes. Jo originally trained as an ecologist and has over 30 years of professional experience in environmental, cultural heritage, protected area, and recreation management. More recently, Jo has worked in research governance and management, while still maintaining her research interests. Jo is currently an Adjunct Fellow at Southern Cross University.</p>
<p>Jo is a NSW State Councillor for the Australian Institute of Maritime Archaeology, and an Assistant Tutor for the AIMA/NAS training. Jo has been involved with GIRT since completing the GIRT training in 2020 and is looking forward to connecting with GIRT members.</p>
